10,000 Pet Dogs are Shot By Law Enforcement Each Year. Who knew?

Filmgoers at the Austin Film Festival are about to.

On November 1, Ozymandias Media (Just Add Firewater's sister company) will premiere a documentary, Of Dogs and Men, which explores a disturbing trend in American law enforcement: the killing of pet dogs. Are these callous acts by officers in a system without regard for our family pets, or are they true peace officers doing their best in a dangerous job? Of Dogs and Men investigates the issue from all angles, interviewing law enforcement officers and experts and taking a journey with pet owners through the tragedy of loss and pursuit of change.

Here's a review from the AFF staff:

This was a heart-wrenching film to watch. The topic of police shooting family pets is a difficult one, and it’s handled thoughtfully and in a balanced way by the filmmakers. The film shows the conflicted feelings of the police officers, who could be confronted with the same situation. Being a strong animal rights advocate, I applaud the filmmakers for the depth of examination they put forth, and for creating such a compelling story.
