In October of 2015 our sister company, Ozymandias Media, premiered Of Dogs and Men at the Austin Film Festival. Of Dogs and Men chronicles the killing of more than 10,000 pet dogs per year by law enforcement. While the subject matter is difficult, the film is ultimately an uplifting story of courage, perseverance and change - but, mainly courage - a s*ton of it.
Audiences who attended the screenings had the opportunity to hear the stories behind the stories and meet several people who were subjects of the film, including Cindy Boling who fought tirelessly to get legislation passed in Texas after her beloved border collie was shot by police during a call on the wrong house and Jeff Halstead, former Chief of Police of Ft. Worth Texas, who worked with her to make it happen.
Listening to Cindy and Jeff talk about the trajectory towards change and the obstacles they encountered along the way reminded us of just how hard righting wrongs is and how grateful we are that there are people who have the guts to do it. What it took for everyone in this documentary to move beyond grief and anger and challenge what some would believe to be an immovable system cannot be understated. Courage is hard - and you have inspired us to have more of it.
